Basic Homicide Investigation

This course is hosted by the Washington Homicide Investigators Association (WHIA)

This class will be held virtually. 

This 40-hour course is intended to be a basic, fundamental training on homicide investigations. A class for new investigators, or new-to homicide investigators, taught by experienced investigators.  The entire instructor cadre consists of professionals currently employed in the field of law enforcement, ensuring the curriculum stays relevant.

This course fulfills the “Basic Homicide Investigation” basic training class for the IIT lead investigator certificate requirement (WAC 139-12-030)

Course tuition $100.  Includes full 5-day attendance, class materials and handouts, certificate of completion and 2022 annual WHIA membership.  $25 refund if already a 2022 member.

• Cell phone and gang investigations
• Homicide scene analysis
• Crime lab resources
• Understanding the role of a Medical Examiners, Forensic Pathologist and Forensic Anthropologist
• Laws of homicide
• Child abuse homicide investigations
• Crime scene assessment
• Interviewing suspects and witnesses
• Case studies and analysis
