As we move into June, I continue to be inspired by the dedication of the public safety professionals, recruits, instructors, and staff who make WSCJTC's mission possible every day. Across Washington, communities depend on well-trained professionals who serve with integrity, accountability, and a commitment to public trust. This month offers several opportunities to celebrate achievements, recognize important observances, and continue advancing our work together.
Celebrating Five Graduating Classes
June is an exciting month for WSCJTC as we celebrate five graduating classes across our academy programs. Each graduation represents months of hard work, sacrifice, and commitment by recruits who have chosen a career of service to their communities.
These graduates come from agencies across Washington and will soon begin serving the communities they call home. Their training has prepared them to navigate the complex realities of modern public safety while upholding the values of professionalism, accountability, and community partnership that are central to our mission.
To every graduate crossing the stage this month, congratulations. Your journey is just beginning, and we are proud to have been part of your preparation.
National Recognition for Basic Law Enforcement Academy
This month, members of our team will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to formally receive national accreditation certification for the Basic Law Enforcement Academy from the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST).
This achievement reflects years of work by instructors, academy leadership, support staff, and agency partners who are committed to delivering high-quality, nationally recognized training. Accreditation demonstrates that our academy meets nationally accepted standards and reinforces our commitment to providing training that is legally sound, evidence-based, and responsive to the needs of Washington's communities.
This recognition belongs to everyone who contributes to the success of our training programs and to the strengthening of our reputation as a national leader in public safety training.
Continuous Improvement in Training
Excellence in training requires constant evaluation and improvement. Across WSCJTC, teams continue to review curriculum, refine instructional methods, and identify opportunities to enhance the learning experience for recruits and in-service professionals alike.
Public safety continues to evolve, and our training must keep pace. Whether through scenario-based learning, leadership development, community-focused approaches, or emerging best practices, our goal remains the same: preparing professionals to make sound decisions under pressure while serving with dignity and respect.
I am grateful to the instructors, subject-matter experts, and staff members who continually seek ways to improve the quality and effectiveness of our programs.
Recognizing Important June Observances
June is also a month of reflection, awareness, and celebration.
We recognize Pride Month, which honors the contributions, experiences, and diversity of LGBTQ+ individuals and communities across our state and nation. Building trust with the communities we serve requires understanding, respect, and a commitment to treating every person with dignity.
On June 19, we observe Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States and recognizing the ongoing pursuit of equality and opportunity for all. Juneteenth provides an opportunity to reflect on our shared history and the importance of fostering inclusive communities.
June is also National PTSD Awareness Month, a reminder that trauma can affect anyone, including public safety professionals who routinely encounter challenging and difficult situations. Supporting wellness, resilience, and mental health remains an important part of building a strong and sustainable public safety workforce.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate accomplishments, pursue continuous improvement, and recognize the diverse communities we serve, I remain optimistic about the future of WSCJTC and public safety in Washington.
Thank you for your partnership, professionalism, and commitment to service. Together, we are preparing the next generation of public safety professionals and strengthening trust in the communities we serve.
