The Physical Ability Test (PAT) is a prerequisite for enrollment to the Basic Law Enforcement Academy, Corrections Officers Academy, and Juvenile Corrections Officers Academy.
The purpose of the PAT is to evaluate a recruits ability to successfully participate in the physical requirements of the academy, and reduce the possibility of injuries occurring during the academy training. Consisting of three events, recruits must successfully complete the minimum number of correct repetitions of each event and must successfully pass each event. Failure of any event constitutes a failure of the PAT. Results are only valid for 45 days from the date of testing and must be valid on the first day of a recruit’s academy class.
The PAT events must be performed in the below order:
1. Pushup Test
- BLEA: 90 seconds to complete a minimum of 20 pushups to pass
- COA: 90 seconds to complete a minimum of 15 pushups to pass
- JCOA: 90 seconds to complete a minimum of 10 pushups to pass
- Followed by a three minute rest period
2. Sit Up Test
- BLEA: 90 seconds to complete a minimum of 25 sit ups to pass
- COA & JCOA: 90 seconds to complete a minimum of 12 sit ups to pass
- Followed by a five minute rest period
3. Squat Thrust Test
- BLEA: 3 minutes to complete a minimum of 35 squat thrusts to pass
- COA: 3 minutes to complete a minimum of 25 squat thrusts to pass
- JCOA: 3 minutes to complete a minimum of 15 squat thrusts to pass
