Patrol Tactics Instructor

This is an 80-hour comprehensive patrol tactics course designed to promote safe and effective tactics typically required on a daily basis for LEO. This course is the prerequisite for all other advanced/unusual occurrence tactics classes. As such, this class contains instructional delivery specific to the course content and not general instructional concepts.

Within this class, the participant learns the components of Basic Patrol Tactics and technique application, instruction and testing. The core tactics involve structure clearing, low/high risk vehicle stops, MIDD, and DV calls. Emphasis is placed on single and double officer tactics, assessment and planning skills, specific and proper means of instruction, and theoretical background to analyze and develop agency specific programs to serve as a basis for subsequent unusual occurrences and extreme risk tactics classes.

  • Patrol tactics and techniques
  • Mindset and effects on perception
  • Scenario construction and safe effective class conduct
  • Use of video recording during teaching and testing
  • Human performance and learning as they relate to skill instruction and testing
  • Components of learning goals and performance objectives and the appropriate use of each
  • The PADDIE process and basic concepts of program development and implementation

This class covers material beyond the material provided in FTO/PTO class and is a highly recommended for both veteran and new FTO/PTO's.

Prerequisites

This class contains elements from other disciplines such as Firearms and/or Integrated Arrest Tactics (IAT) those respective instructor classes are highly recommended prior to attending this class.

WHO CAN ATTEND OUR CLASSES?

Class is only open to active law enforcement officers. It is strongly encouraged that officers meet the suggested prerequisites.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

  • Fully equipped duty belt and inert firearm
  • Handcuffs (and keys)
  • Sturdy boots

DRESS CODE

Visitors attending training at the WSCJTC are encouraged to wear their agency logo shirt/uniform or agency ID badge while on campus.

Visitors not wearing agency identification will need to check in at the front desk and wear a clip-on visitor's identification card.

REGULATION

Recertification is required every three years. The recertification course is number 2191.

SCHEDULE

Classes will be held 0800 – 1700 Monday through Friday.
