An increased understanding of the neurobiological impacts of trauma on victims of sexual violence have led to more effective law enforcement tactics for engaging with victims of these crimes. A trauma-informed approach by patrol officers, as prescribed in this two-hour training, can lead to increased criminal justice participation by victims and therefore higher rates of accountability for offenders. Since the patrol officer is typically the initial encounter with the criminal justice system and process, the interaction between the officer and victim may be critical to the outcome of the case. The guidance offered by a multi-disciplinary team of sexual assault investigation experts and instructors in this training will equip officers with need to know information and practices for these call outs.
