WSCJTC OPENS NORTHWEST REGIONAL CAMPUS IN ARLINGTON, EXPANDING LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

ARLINGTON, Wash. – March 18, 2025 – The Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) will open the Northwest Regional Campus at 19405 68th Dr. NE, Arlington, WA 98223, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 20, 2025, from 11 a.m. to noon. This expansion enhances Washington’s capacity to recruit and train officers locally, helping agencies across the state meet increasing public safety demands.

Governor Bob Ferguson and WSCJTC Executive Director Monica Alexander will address the importance of regionalized training and law enforcement recruitment, including how this initiative supports Senate Bill 5060, a $100 million hiring grant program to strengthen police departments across Washington.

Expanding Training to Meet Law Enforcement Needs

The 38,736-square-foot Arlington campus provides new recruits and incumbent officers with state-of-the-art training resources, reducing the need to relocate to Burien. WSCJTC will conduct two Basic Law Enforcement Academy (BLEA) classes annually, each training approximately 30 recruits. The facility also offers advanced training in firearms education, patrol tactics, and instructor development.

“This facility allows us to train more officers where they live, ensuring agencies can hire from within their communities,” said Monica Alexander, WSCJTC Executive Director. “Our regional academy model removes barriers for those unable to relocate for training while strengthening public safety across Washington.”

Governor Bob Ferguson emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating, "Keeping our communities safe is one of Washington’s core values. It’s unacceptable that we rank last in law enforcement officers per capita. Regional academies like this one will help get those officers trained and ready to protect Washingtonians."

Cutting-Edge Training Technology

The Arlington campus features VR simulation technology that immerses recruits in real-world policing scenarios. Two simulation houses with movable walls allow officers to practice building searches and tactical maneuvers. An indoor training warehouse supports vehicle-based scenarios, high-risk stops, and all-weather instruction.

Strengthening Local Recruitment & Community Policing

The Northwest Academy improves access to training for officers from Everett, Arlington, Skagit County, and Snohomish County. The ability to train locally allows agencies to recruit individuals who may not have previously considered a career in law enforcement, such as single parents and caregivers.

WSCJTC has partnered with Everett PD and Arlington PD to provide TAC officers and instructors, further reinforcing collaboration between training programs and the communities they serve.

Event Details & Media Access

The ribbon-cutting event will include remarks from state and local officials, a facility tour, and media interview opportunities. For additional information regarding the new facility, please review our fact sheet
