Who are Sikhs?

In this course officers will learn about the Sikh community’s cultural, religious, and social practices so that they are able to effectively communicate and serve members of their community who are Sikh.

Upon completion of this course, Officers will be able to:

  • discuss the Sikh faith and community;
  • describe the Sikh identity and articles of faith;
  • illustrate the challenges Sikhs face; and

summarize best practices on how to interact with Sikh community members.

 

Who can attend classes (i.e. certified law enforcement, public, corrections, etc.)?

Anyone with an Acadis or FirstForward login.

Per WAC 139-11, this course is required for:

  • all peace officers certified in Washington before December 7, 2019; and
  • lateral peace officers certified in Washington after December 7, 2019.

The course must be completed by January 1, 2028, for these two types of certified officers.

Additionally, if a certified peace officer graduates from the Basic Law Enforcement Academy after May 2020, the course is required and must be completed within three years from their graduation date.
