Basic Training Division (BTD)
The (BTD at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) provides Washington’s foundational training for newly hired law enforcement and corrections professionals. BTD oversees the Basic Law Enforcement Academy, Corrections Officers Academy, Juvenile Corrections Officers Academy, and other required entry-level training programs that prepare peace officers and corrections personnel to serve communities across Washington. In addition, BTD provides Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC) Instructor and Collision Investigations training for incumbent officers.
BTD also provides law enforcement equivalency training for experienced officers who were trained or certified outside Washington and are seeking certification in the state. Through comprehensive, standards-based academy training, BTD prepares public safety professionals with the knowledge, practical skills, and decision-making abilities they need to begin their careers.

Basic Law Enforcement Academy
Basic training required for initial, entry-level peace officers and police officer certification in Washington State.
Mandated LETCSA courses, traffic/EVOC training, and other required courses for basic law enforcement officers are built into BLEA.
Corrections Officers Academies
These academies are designed to provide training for employees whose primary job function is the custody, safety, and security of inmates in detention facilities.
Corrections Service Academies
These academies are designed to provide training for employees whose primary job function is the assessment, case planning, counseling, and monitoring of offenders.
Equivalency Academies
Basic training required for experienced officers who were trained or certified outside of Washington, or whose certification has otherwise lapsed or expired, and are seeking WA State peace officer or corrections officer certification.
Traffic
These courses are designed to provide training for incumbent officers to teach Basic Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC) training or investigate collisions.
