The course is the foundation for Control/Defensive Tactics (C/DT) and Use of Force (UOF) for Law Enforcement Officers. Controlled F.O.R.C.E. is the developer and sole provider of the M.A.C.H. ™ Training System, which is an established national standard of subject control and defensive tactics training that has been adopted into Law Enforcement and the Department of Defense Doctrine. The M.A.C.H.™ Training System has been designed as a program that deals with non-compliant, surprise attackers, and highly aggressive/combative subjects, and delivered in a simplistic and unique manner.

Corrections Officers Academy

This 400 hour academy is designed to provide training for employees whose primary job functions are to facilitate the custody, safety and security of adults in jails. The COA provides participants with the basic knowledge and skills needed for safe and effective service. Training Coordinators act as coaches and mentors to individuals and the group as a whole. Professionalism and decorum are encouraged for officers to develop pride and ownership of conduct. Students are also organized into teams with Team Leaders serving to enhance group performance.

Corrections Officers Equivalency Academy 1012

The Corrections Officers Equivalency process is 80 hours in length, and represents an alternative challenge to the regular Academy program. It is available to previously employed corrections officers upon the request of the respective agency head.

This course is hosted by the State 911 Coordination Office, Telecommunicator Training Program, Emergency Management Division.

The 8-hour Crisis Intervention Team Training for 911 is tailored to meet the unique needs of the 911 Public Safety Dispatcher. Participants will recognize the vital role of 911 within the crisis intervention team. They will review safety concerns and crisis indicators of different types of mental health illnesses to relay to emergency responders. They will identify effective de-escalation, crisis intervention and interview techniques to further assist individuals experiencing crisis. They will share resources for community mental health and crisis outreach. This training is available to all 911 Dispatchers (Telecommunicators) working in 911 or Public Safety Call Centers in Washington State.

This course is hosted by the Puyallup Police Department.

The most lethal aspect of police work is suicide. The suicidal fellow officer presents one of the most complex threats a law enforcement agency can face. This presentation outlines predisposing factors of police suicide, factors affecting risk and strategies for an effective intervention. PTSD and the high suicide rate within Department of Defense demand a closer look at the law enforcement response to a veteran in crisis. We will also explore, in-depth, the psychological wounds of veterans as it relates to crisis intervention as well as specific negotiation strategies for mitigation.

This course is hosted by the Puyallup Police Department.

The elder population is among the highest risk for suicide and murder-suicide in the United States. This presentation will address factors impacting the risk of suicide and murder-suicide as well as useful technique for intervention. The deaf and hard-of-hearing in crisis present unique challenges for law enforcement. This presentation will provide a cultural awareness, tips for understanding the crisis, and specific techniques intervention and protecting the rights of the deaf and hard of hearing in crisis. Basic cultural awareness helps law enforcement respond to the LGTBQ community in crisis. This presentation includes a primer on terminology, sensitive interaction, and techniques for crisis intervention. A panel is planned for this presentation – however is subject to the availability of panel members.

Crisis Intervention/Negotiation with Troubled Youth, Classroom Avengers, and in a Corrections Environment

This course is hosted by the Puyallup Police Department.

The law enforcement response to youth in crisis demands specialized techniques. This presentation addresses the phases of adolescent social development, unique teen stressors, suicide trends in the United States, as well as skills for intervention. Responding to the Classroom Avenger takes a hard look at the school rampage shooter, behavioral indicators and as well as specific techniques for intervention. The final presentation of the day addresses crisis intervention/negotiation within the corrections environment. Any jurisdiction with detention or correctional operations will benefit from this in-depth look at inmate crises including suicide. CSM’s Crisis/Hostage Negotiation Course (Level I/Basic) is a practical introductory course of instruction for newly assigned negotiators or negotiators having a five-years or more lapse in crisis negotiation training. The basic course is the first in a series of three progressive courses. The basic course meets or exceeds most state and federal training requirements for crisis/hostage negotiator certification and is trained in accordance with guidelines established by the National Council of Negotiation Associations.

Dark Web Investigations

This course is hosted by Northwest HIDTA.

This course gives a foundation and framework for investigating the dark web for narcotics, gangs, transnational organized crime, and other criminal activity. This is a practical hands-on course which provides the opportunity to become immersed in best practices for dark web investigators.  This course in non-technical, in that no prerequisites or prior training in code or script is required. Basic knowledge of search functions is helpful but will be reviewed. Dark Web investigations, unlike traditional online investigations, add a new dimension of anonymity to the criminals using this platform. It indicates a higher level of sophistication and creates increased difficulty for investigators to detect, engage, and communicate. Training will cover evidence collection and chain of custody as well as documenting evidence in these investigations. This course focuses on drug investigations and criminal violations taking place using the dark web, including methods to investigate and prosecute.

Duty to Intervene 8898 Virtual

The Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) has launched an on-line duty to intervene training to meet Substitute Senate Bill 5066 (SSB 5066). The training is self-guided and will take approximately three hours to complete in Acadis. The bill does not state a specific training that must be completed. WSCJTC’s duty to intervene training is an additional resource but is not mandated nor required.
