Introduction to the Historical Intersection of Race and Policing Virtual

In order to facilitate successful interactions with Black Americans in their community, students will learn about the generational trauma that impacts the experience of Black Americans in U.S. society. Law Enforcement and Society: Lessons of the Holocaust 4010 Virtual

The Holocaust for Humanity Center engages with law enforcement to learn about the role of police in Nazi Germany and to reflect on their role in a democratic society today. Officers will learn to build more positive relationships with specific communities within areas they serve by understanding how biases, stereotypes, and a lack of understanding about varying cultural norms negatively impacts police interactions with the public.

Law Enforcement Grant Writing 101 is Nationally Certified by the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training and is eligible for in-service credits.

This course is hosted by the Spokane County Sheriff's Office.

Classroom instruction on considerations and tactics when responding to, supervising, and managing critical incidents. The supervisor’s role in mitigating the risks to public safety, employees, and the liability to the organization will be explored in this course of instruction.

LEAD UOF/Control Defensive Tactics Instructor Course 6241

This is the follow up certification for 6240 Control/Defensive Tactics (C/DT) and Use of Force (UOF) for Law Enforcement Officers. WSCJTC recognizes no students are proficient in all skills and knowledge in just one week of training. To ensure skills and knowledge are proficient the 6241-LEAD Instructor Course is Mandatory if being a lead or regional instructor is your goal. This 40-hour course includes a review for all the skill instruction, use of force, acute behavioral disorders and report writing.

LEAD: A Model Based in Harm Reduction 8021

This ninety-minute presentation and discussion with a panel of officers, case managers, and service providers will focus on the LEAD model and its approach to reduce harm. LEAD’s goal is to reduce harm to individuals and to the community, and this is achieved through field based engagement and relationship building. Harm reduction involves a range of support services and strategies to enhance the knowledge, skills, resources, and supports for individuals, families and communities to be safer and healthier.

This course is hosted by the Sunnyside Police Department.

The Less Lethal Instructor Program provides the necessary training for a changing world. This course is comprised for four 8-hour instructor-level classes covering OC Aerosols, Impact Munitions, Chemical Munitions and Distraction Device Munitions.

This course is hosted by various police departments (see attached postings).

This course uses PowerPoint, video and hands-on instruction to guide the students through the process of working on three different classes of launchers. Normally held to a 15 to 1 student/teacher ratio, each class ensures every student receives the personal attention required to master these skills.

Lethal/Less Lethal Shotgun Instructor 2030 Spokane Police Regional Training Center

This course will give current firearm’s instructors the knowledge and skills of shotgun operation in both Lethal and Less-Lethal applications. This course is not ammunition specific, but rather, familiarizes officers with the variety of lethal ammunition options, less-lethal munitions options, and tactics currently used during LE operations. Applicants who fail the prerequisite entry range skills test will be removed from the class on the morning of the first day and charged the full course tuition fee.

LGBTQ+ Core Competency 4040 Virtual

This training equips participants with current and accurate information surrounding laws, the historical context around the relationship between the LGBTQ+ community and law enforcement, terminology, and more so that officers feel confident in their knowledge regarding the LGBTQ+ community. Other areas covered in this training will be gender identity, gender expression, and pronoun usage so that officers may effectively and respectfully communicate with LGBTQ+ individuals. After completing this training, officers will receive 2.5 hours of LETCSA credits.

Lock Picking and Specialized Entry Techniques D.F. Allmendinger Center

This course is hosted by the Puyallup Police Department.

This course will introduce students to basic lock picking skills, as well as a variety of other options for lock bypassing beyond the conventional forced entry. Students will have an opportunity to develop new skills by picking more than 150 different training locks. In addition, important intelligence gathering and preplanning issues will be discussed that facilitate a mission conclusion.

Building off the MPR course, the Master Public Information course moves the participant from the tactical to the strategic level of media and brand management.

Middle Management 4221

Change to Middle Management Career Level Certification Training Requirements – Effective January 1, 2023, the mandated course required to obtain Middle Management Career Level Certification will become the 21st Century Police Leadership (21CPL) course. Those requiring Middle Management Certification will need to complete this three-week course, serve 12 months in their promoted rank then submit their application for certification. The 40-hour Middle Management course will no longer be offered.

The MPCA is 80 hours in length and is designed to provide training for adult probation officers. The course will include, but is not limited to, the following topics:

Mossberg 500/590 Armorer

This course is hosted by the Kittitas County Sheriff's Office.

ACADEMI’s course covers the Mossberg 500/590/590DA shotgun systems and provides instruction on how to diagnose and repair malfunctions, rebuild and return shotguns to factory specifications, perform function inspections, check headspace and more. Armorer training classes are a mixture of classroom instruction and hands-on exercises, enabling each student to achieve a high degree of familiarity with the topics covered. Students successfully completing the course will be able to repair and maintain Mossberg 500 series shotguns to factory standards. Graduates will be issued a three-year certification and receive one-on-one Mossberg and ACADEMI support.

Negotiating with terrorists, violent true believers, troubled youth, the elderly, combat veterans, fellow officers, inmates, sovereign citizens, the deaf and hard of hearing, LGBTQ in crisis, and the protest movement present a unique set of challenges for a crisis negotiation team. In this advanced course, designed specifically for experienced negotiators, students will learn communication and negotiation strategies for interacting with each these populations.

This course is hosted by the Western Regional Counterdrug Training Center.

This course teaches students basic techniques to geolocate where a picture or video was taken through a combination of reverse image searches and online searching. This course uses both lecture and practical exercises to teach the students. Upon course completion students will have acquired new techniques to analyze pictures and videos in order to aid their investigations.

This course is hosted by the Lakewood Police Department.

Upon completion, students will be knowledgeable in Part 107 operations in accordance with the FAA Airmen Certification Standards (ACS) and ready to take the FAA Remote Pilot written test. The Practical Shooting Incident Reconstruction course is designed for police officers, detectives, criminalists, forensic scientists, and crime scene investigators who would be tasked to investigate a shooting scene. The course focuses on firearms mechanics; ballistic trajectories; how bullets interact with various surfaces; and practical recognition, documentation, processing ,and analysis of shooting scene evidence. Public Safety Drone Pilot Training: FAA Part 107 Prep Course Lakewood Police Department

This course is hosted by the Lakewood Police Department.

Upon completion, #1. The students will be knowledgeable in the technical areas listed in the FAA Airmen Certification Standards (ACS) for Remote Pilot with small UAS rating. #2. The students will be well prepared to pass the FAA Remote Pilot written test to obtain an FAA license for Part 107 drone operations. #3. The students will also be knowledgeable in COA operations. #4. The students will be able to start up an effective drone program for their agency with the resources and information provided during the course.#5. The students will develop safe pilots and tools for use as program managers with the ability to make sound “go/no-go” decisions on all drone operations.
